Both XBMC and SPMC have to be sideloaded, which takes just a few minutes. The Firetv will be more newbie friendly, has full support from Amazon, does Netflix and Amazon Prime very well, etc. The only downside would be if you really need external storage, the firetv doesn't support that unless it is rooted.
